Skipton
Skipton is a flourishing market town and civil parish in the Craven District of North Yorkshire, historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Set in beautiful countryside to the south of the Yorkshire Dales, it has good road and rail connections and there is plenty to see and do. Skipton is on the River Aire with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal running through the town, making it a popular destination for visitors.
Skipton was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The well-preserved buildings of Skipton Castle date back to 1090 and it is one of the most complete medieval castles in England. Much of Skipton’s historic buildings and architecture remain, and two of the original mill buildings have been converted into flats. Skipton became a prosperous market town, mainly through sheep and woollen goods, and the market continues four days of each week.
