Crosskeys
The small village of Crosskeys lies in the Welsh Valleys, seven miles north-west of Newport and alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.
It was named after the first public house to be opened in the area, the Crosskeys Inn, and the building is now known as Crosskeys Hotel. Prior to this, the village was known as Pontycymer.
First created in the 1830s, when many of the homes in the village housed the coal miners working in Risca. Crosskeys is now a quiet residential area with a park and listed buildings, but its close vicinity to now-closed coal mines would make it advisable to get a structural survey done on any property you may wish to purchase.
Crosskeys is home to a traditional working hill farm that is open to visitors and close to the attractive Cwmcarn Forest Drive.
