Bristol buildingsProperty website, Rightmove, has crowned Bristol the most sought after place in the UK outside London for property sales and rentals during 2019.

At the end of 2019, the average price of a property in Bristol was £316,410, nearly half that of a home in London. Over the year, property sold faster in Bristol than anywhere else in the South West of England, at an average 50 days. After Bristol, York was the next most searched for place in England and Wales.

Prices and sales volumes have been buoyed up by Bristol’s strong local economy and a shortage of homes coming onto the market. Property prices rose an average 2.3% in 2019, compared to the national average of 0.8%.

In London, the most popular place for home buyers was Wimbledon, followed by Bromley and Romford. Pontefract in Yorkshire and the Humber saw the biggest annual sales growth and prices rose by 12.3% to an average £175,412 in the year.

After Bristol, the most searched for places for rental property were Manchester and Liverpool.

For property renters, Canary Wharf was the most searched for followed by Fulham and Wimbledon. Rents in Battersea and Wandsworth rose more than any other area, going up by 14.1% over the year to an average £2,544 per month.
