There are many listed buildings in Ramsgate with more than 200 close to the harbour. Many of these date from Georgian times with maritime expansion followed by the building of the Railways in Victorian times. As a consequence many houses and buildings date from these periods.
Among the notable buildings is Townley House in the centre, which dates from 1780 and was visited by Princess Victoria. Ramsgate railway station is also a Grade II listed building, and was built between 1924 and 1926.
